Zydeco Basics

(Closed Couples around the room/ Directions for lead foot)

The basic zydeco step can be based either on a Two-step (Q,Q,S) or Westchester (S,Q,Q) rhythm. In either case,
the dance is usually structured like an East Coast Swing, danced more-or-less in place, with the first half in
place or swaying slightly to the lead side, and the second half moving away from one's partner with a ball-change
as one would do with an East Coast Swing.

In addition, some people also use the basic couples movement and foot work of a foxtrot where both partners are moving together
in parallel along "Line-of-Dance" or reverse "Line-of-Dance" rather than staying in place like an East Coast Swing or Lindy Hop.

Hip movement and weight change is much less structured and more individual with some people using the weight changes
of a "cuban" walk and others using standard hip movements. The following is based on a Westchester (S,Q,Q) rhythm.

Step 1: lead (slow), sway in place- other (quick), sway in place- lead (quick)

Step 2: in place- other (slow), ball-change [back- lead (quick), fwd- other (quick)]
